Searching motor vehicle records for a driver’s license violation history and Commercial Driver’s License status helps reduce your liability of negligent hiring or retention claims
Employment Background Solutions provides you a complete line of motor vehicle records (MVR) and access to industry standard Commercial Drivers License (CDLIS) reports for records of violations, suspensions and current license status.
Employment Background Solutions allows you full access to a driver’s license motor vehicle record (MVR) directly from the state of issuance in the United States*. This is a must in ensuring public safety, reducing your liability exposure and verification of personal information if your applicant will be driving as part of their job. Most states return results in a matter of minutes. All that is required is a full name, date of birth, driver’s license number and state where it was issued. EBS will do the rest for you. * Some states require a separate release form or assess additional fees to obtain records.
Motor Vehicle Records: A summary of driving violations will range from 3 – 7 years depending on the state in question. This includes verification of a revocation, suspension or valid driving status. This can also detect some DUI related convictions that are not always included in a criminal records search.
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Search: A direct search of the Commercial Driver’s License Information System (CDLIS) and serves as the industry standard for CDL checks. This provides a search linking the applicant’s Social Security Number (SSN) and name for any current CDL and up to the last three prior Commercial Driver License (CDL) that were issued.
When hiring a commercial driver this search is an industry best policy practice and is mandated by the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act (CMVSA) of 1986. The purpose of the Act is to assist employers in meeting the goal of the basic accountability requirement “that each driver, nationwide, have only one driver license and one record.”
Note: A search of CDLIS does not provide a driver’s motor vehicle record of violations. That must be obtained by completing a MVR search. EBS can combine or add these searches together in a package for you at your request. We do not charge you any set up fees to create or modify a search package.
